This quarantine has brought about more ideas for healthy recipes that I never knew I would have tried. This challenge has inspired me to use my Nutribullet blender for smoothies that would help keep my immune system up  during coronavirus season.

Smoothies are a perfect, cool summertime snack. Although many opinions linger out there,  I have noticed that there is no wrong way to make your smoothie. It all depends on your  literal taste and preference as long as it is a blend of healthy food, and not processed food. Here are some healthy Nutribullet recipes that can also help you stay strong and healthy.

Reminder: When adding fruit, make sure all fruit is washed thoroughly, or it will defeat the purpose of healthy eating.

Banapple Smoothie

This smoothie is a favorite I combined with some of my favorites, banana and apple.  I named it “Banapple Smoothie”, except I couldn’t resist adding oranges to the blend. I could have nicknamed it “Banorangapple Smoothie”, but that would have taken away its cuteness. Besides, the latter is too much to pronounce and not so cute.

2 small unpeeled apples (cut into small cubes)

2 small or unpeeled oranges (cut into small cubes)

one peeled banana

1 cup of purified or distilled water

Pour water into the Nutribullet container. Combine all ingredients into the container with water, filling it halfway to two-thirds of the container (Do not fill the container to the brim). Tightly screw the bladed lid onto the container and place it upside down onto the Nutribullet blender and plug it in. Push and twist the container down to blend.  Blend to desired consistency.  Makes 3-4 servings.

Blueberry Kale Smoothie

1 cup of frozen blueberries

2 cups of raw kale

1 banana

2 cups of purified or distilled water

Optional: 1 cup of water and 1 cup of almond milk

Pour water into Nutribullet container. Remove stems from the kale. Combine frozen blueberries, kale, banana into the container. Screw bladed lid onto the container and place it upside down onto blender Plug it in and blend ingredients. Makes 2 -4 servings. Can add or substract the amount of ingredients.

Citrus Smoothie

1 unpeeled lemon

1 unpeeled orange

1/2  organic pineapple  (cut into chunks)

1/2 teaspoon crushed ginger

3 or 4 cubes crushed ice

1/2 cup water or almond milk

Pour water into blender container. Add lemon, orange, pineapple, and crushed ginger. Blend ingredients together for nutritious blend of vitamin C.  Optional: Add Greek yogurt and mint leaves as toppings. Makes 3-4 servings.

These few smoothies are a healthy source of vitamin and minerals. They have helped build my immunity against many diseases. Until this year, I had not made many smoothies. Now that it is more crucial to stay as healthy as possible, you and I may as well make healthy fun. Here’s to our health!
