Foods That Boost Your Metabolism

The immune system is so important that your entire body and its reactions to the environment depend on it. There is such a connection with the human body that it makes you take notice when your metabolism is slow while your immune system is low. Although I am no medical expert and always remind others to consult a doctor before certain diet, exercises or taking medicine, I speak from my on experience and must share my perspective.

Unless you are allergic to certain vegetables, I have never heard of anyone having negative side effects from eating a healthy veggie meal. On this note, here are some foods that boost your metabolism. What is metabolism? In a nutshell, it is a process when food converts to energy the body needs.

Smoothies

One of the foods that boost your metabolism is a fruit or veggie smoothie. They come in different flavors and ingredients with different types of vitamins. One of my favorites is the apple blueberry smoothie.

For this recipe, you will need the following ingredients:

1 apple

1/2 cup of blueberries

1 stalk of celery

1/4 cup of water or almond milk

1 cup of kale or green leaf lettuce

1 slice of ginger root

a pinch of ground flaxseed.

Pour water or almond milk into a Nutribullet container. Combine the rest of the ingredients into the same container to blend. I love how it doesn’t require buttons to push. Just follow the instructions. Once you tightly screw on the bottom of blades onto the container and place the container onto the blender, just  plug it up, twist and push the top of the  Nutribullet blender.  Plug, twist and push. It only takes seconds to blend.

Chill in the fridge for about 30 mins or add oranges or ice cubes if you prefer. Makes 1-2 servings. Ingredients can be increased or decreased to change serving sizes. I prepared this with my  Nutribullet blender and felt a wonderful charge of energy throughout the day that I use mine to make smoothies each time I have finished my smoothie and need a refill.

Veggie Only Salad

These salads are also among foods that boost your metabolism. This excludes meat. You can combine your favorite veggies to make a variety of delicious salads. The best vegetables for boosting metabolism are leafy greens like kale and spinach and other vegetables like carrots, onions and bell peppers just to name a few.

If you decide to add protein, black beans and nuts can be great meat replacements to help build muscle and boost metabolism.

Fruit Salad

Everyone is not a fan of vegetables like I am. So as an alternative, fruit like apples, blueberries, bananas, strawberries, oranges, grapes, lemons, tomatoes, papayas, pineapples, avocados, etc..can make great salad combinations that will give you the boost of energy you need. Since fruit also has natural sugars, it is best to consult your physician if you have pre-existing health issues such as diabetes or if you are on medication.  Otherwise, one should receive great benefits from natural sugars and the immune-boosting vitamin C, which can also give skin a healthy glow from the inside out.

Once you have cut up your fruit, you can layer it any way you like. Add a healthy topping such as low-fat Greek yogurt and voila! You prepared a healthy salad that only took minutes.  Minutes of preparation can add years to your life during a time when we need a healthier immune system.

During preparation of your meals, thoroughly wash and dry your fruit and vegetables before consumption. Otherwise, it would defeat the purpose of healthy eating if the foods that normally boost your immune system are not properly washed.

These are a few of many foods that boost your metabolism.  Among the many ways to prepare them, these are meals that I share from my own experience, and I am grateful of the outcome.  Do you have your own meals that you prepare that have helped you feel better? If so, feel free to share recipes or results.

  1. Hi, it is true that vegetables give you a boost of energy. I love a smoothie in the morning :-). Instead of salads I also like to make veggie stir fries, barbecued vegetables, or veggie wraps, they all taste really delicious!
